| Résumé | Ce mémoire s'intéresse à la façon dont Frank Miller, auteur reconnu de romans graphiques dont Daredevil, Batman et la série Sin City, et réalisateur de Sin City et The Spirit (adaptations au cinéma des romans graphiques du même titre), traite de la violence dans ces deux films. Il apparaît en effet qu'elle ne soit pas montré d'une façon habituelle, chaque scène de violence étant travaillée, retravaillée, esthétisée (jeux de silhouettes, de couleurs) de sorte qu'elle soit visuellement très proche des bandes dessinées d'origine, ainsi que plus agréable à regarder. Il s'agit donc de comprendre par quels moyens Frank Miller parvient à rendre la violence visuellement plus attrayante, parfois même belle, et déterminer les effets de cette nouvelle violence sur le public, notamment d'un point de vue éthique. |
| Résumé en anglais | This dissertation deals with the way Frank Miller, well known author of graphic novels such as Daredevil, Batman and the Sin City series, and director of Sin City and the Spirit (cinematic adaptations of the eponymous graphic novels), uses violence in both films. Indeed, it seems that violence is not shown in a usual way, each scene of violence being worked, reworked, aestheticized (thanks to variations on silhouettes and colours) so that it looks closely like the original graphic novels, as well as looking better to the eye. It is then about understanding how Frank Miller manages to make violence visually more attractive, even sometimes good looking, and determining the effects of this new kind of violence on the audience, especially from an ethical point of view. |
