Résumé en anglais | The point of this work is to try to show how, why, and to what extent the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne attracts people today. The objective being to give a real idea of how cultural life is in Newcastle rejecting the common stereotypes about the North-East of England. Firstly, it is necessary to analyse chronologically the past of the city, focusing the study on four main periods which affected Newcastle so greatly that they are now part of its cultural legacy. In this way, the features of those eras will be depicted highlighting why they attract visitors. Secondly, an emphasis on the recent features will be handled as they gather many new elements which are now added to the city in order to fulfil everybody's wishes. Thirdly, a more detailed description of the tourism in Newcastle will be conducted, supported by relevant figures to underline how tourism evolves. This whole research will stress how Newcastle's heyday is not over, and how people, who think the North-East is not generating tourism, simply ignore the truth. |
