| Résumé | Le reggaeton est un genre musical né à Porto Rico dans les années 90. Très régulièrement méprisé pour son contenu sexuel et violent, rares sont les personnes qui ont tenté de voir ce qu’il y avait derrière ce phénomène culturel. Porto Rico est une petite île des Caraïbes possédant le statut particulier d’État Libre Associé aux États-Unis, ce qui implique que ce territoire est autonome, mais tout en étant gouverné par le Congrès américain. De plus, cette île se situe à la croisée d’influences culturelles diverses et variées, et se trouve alors submergée par les traits identitaires qui proviennent de tous azimuts. Ainsi, le reggaeton étant refoulé dans un Porto Rico qui peine à imposer sa propre identité, nous tenterons de confirmer l’hypothèse selon laquelle le reggaeton est un élément essentiel pour comprendre la portoricanité (l’identité portoricaine) aujourd’hui. Pour ce faire, nous expliquerons pourquoi le reggaeton est considéré comme portoricain, en quoi il représente la population de Porto Rico, et si celle-ci se reconnaît en lui. Nous nous appuierons principalement sur deux ouvrages de références, trois chansons ainsi que de nombreuses sources de tout format afin de prouver que l’on ne peut envisager une compréhension globale de la portoricanité si l’on ne prend pas en compte ce genre musical. |
| Résumé en anglais | Reggaeton is a musical genre that was born in Puerto Rico in the 1990s. Very regularly despised for its sexual and violent content, few people have tried to see what was behind this cultural phenomenon. Puerto Rico is a small island in the Caribbean with the special status of Commonwealth, which implies that this territory is autonomous, but still governed by the United States Congress. Moreover, this island is at the crossroads of diverse and varied cultural influences, and is then submerged by identity traits that come from all over the world. Thus, since reggaeton is repressed in a Puerto Rico that is struggling to impose its own identity, we will try to confirm the hypothesis that reggaeton is an essential element in understanding Puerto Ricanness (the Puerto Rican identity) today. To do this, we will explain why reggaeton is considered Puerto Rican, how it represents the population of Puerto Rico, and whether this population recognizes itself in it. We will rely mainly on two reference books, three songs and many sources in all formats to prove that a global understanding of Puerto Ricanness cannot be achieved without taking this musical genre into account. |
